A Startup’s First Customer Event
Designing it all as a one-person creative team
Challenge:
Our marketing team had only a few months to plan and promote Encamp’s first customer conference. We needed an event identity and marketing materials quickly.
Solution:
As the only Brand Designer, I created everything we needed to promote the event within two weeks — from a brand identity to landing pages, display ads, email banners, mailers, and more.
I designed all the onsite collateral for the three-day, in-person event.
A week before the event, I designed a customized, 16-page booklet for each attendee and a 100+ page slide deck.
Results:
Environmental leaders from Amazon, Marathon, AT&T, and more attended. In the post-event survey, we received an NPS score of 78, well above the framework’s 70+ rating for “excellent” events.
Some attendees even said my slide deck was the best they’d ever seen at a conference.

A brand within a brand
Challenge:
The event logo needed to feel like Encamp, but appeal to a corporate audience of Environmental Health & Safety industry leaders. Much of the event’s content would focus on how EHS leaders can achieve positive business outcomes through digital transformation.
Solution:
I whipped up the mark in one day of exploration, collaborating with director of marketing, Jess Engel. I used the brand’s secondary typeface, Plex Sans, to make the logo feel cohesive with the overall Encamp branding. Focusing on the aspirational theme, I added a mountain icon topped with a flag to represent achievement.

One designer, 100+ slides
Challenge:
Our event featured 20+ sessions and workshops with speakers from the environmental industry, featuring companies like Marathon, Amazon, and more.
Solution:
I designed a 100+ page slide deck, mostly utilizing a template I had built for speaker sessions. I added 27 custom slides for the CEO and CTO’s session introducing the product roadmap. Mason Baziw, attendee from TopBuild, said it was the best slide deck he’d ever seen at a conference.
Designing for customer experience
Challenge:
Our event took place at a hotel where several other corporate groups were also meeting.
Solution:
I designed branded signage, name badges, and staff uniforms with the event branding to help guests find their way to Encamp each day.
Encamp in the details
Challenge:
Because the startup is still building awareness in its market, we didn’t want to lose the opportunity to integrate the core Encamp brand throughout the event.
Solution:
Collaborating with our Sr. Field & Marketing Director, Darcy Dobis, I designed memorable touches like branded coffee cups, pillows for the welcome reception lounge, and cocktail napkins featuring tree facts, all featuring Encamp’s fun and bright illustrations. I even designed a branded ice cube for the cocktails at dinner.
Happy customers
In the post-event survey, our score among attendees was 78, meeting the exceptional rating of 70+ for the NPS framework.
