Wind Down, Drink Up
The Civvy is a soon-to-open rooftop bar in Indianapolis, based on a brand concept inspired by the building’s history as a tailoring company that outfitted soldiers during both World Wars. Overlooking the city’s Victory monument to the common soldier, the rooftop bar pays homage to the idea of being in and out of uniform. Our team at The Gettys Group named the bar for a World War II slang term for civilian clothes, or “civvies,” which soldiers wear while off-duty—perhaps when visiting a bar to unwind and relax. This concept was presented alongside multiple other options created by my teammates at The Gettys Group, and the clients ultimately chose a concept created by my colleague, Christine Knorps.

Military, but make it fashion.
This concept blends a military-inspired palette of green and gray with a vibrant orange. I designed the logo to reference vintage military patches, with hand-crafted fonts, star embellishments, and an eagle illustration drawn by branding director Jana Singer Arbogast. The branding feels both military and casual, vintage-inspired and cool in a modern way. I also created the bar’s tagline: “Wind down, drink up.”
